The Piano Duo Mephisto is the encounter between two musicians, who met and trained at the piano school of the Santa Cecilia conservatory: Stefano Caponi e Stefania Maroni. Their partnership is based on a deep musical similarity which is expressed in a sonoric empathy of great suggestion continuously balancing elegance, energy and passion. These are the main characteristics of their interpretative vision based on a choice of repertoire which is never academic but always driven by a sincere sentiment of authenticity.
This repertoire is divided in a double formation of a piano duo and four hand player and ranges from works of W.A Mozart to M. Ravel, from J. Brahms to D. Milhaud, crossing experiments of transcriptions, as in the case of Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin, or experiences of collaborations with other instruments such as the famous sonata by C. Boiling.
The Mephisto duo has always been received with enthusiasm by the audience and critics during their numerous recitals that saw them protagonists in the major italian theater and concert festivals and also participating in radio musical broadcasts of the Vatican Radio.
Stefano Caponi is a graduate pianist. He took his diploma in the music conservatory of “S.Cecilia” with the highest marks under the guidance of Maestro G. La Licata. He became an expert in contemporary music with Maestro F.Mannino. From 1983 he is the Artistic Director of the Kipling Musica Academy. He has participated in many national and international competitions often reaching the first places in the standings. He studied orchestra conducting with Maestro R. Napoli and he is a music writer for theatre. He performs both as a solo artist and in chamber formations. His vast mozart repertoire is very well appreciated, of which he is a refined executor.
Stefania Maroni is a graduate pianist. She took her diploma in the music conservatory of “S.Cecilia” in Rome with the highest marks. She participated in several important piano festivals and in various competitions, often reaching the first places in the standings. She holds concert events as a solo artist, and in different chamber and orchestral formations (a duo and larger groups). She has played in Italy and abroad in important musical venues. She has done recordings for the Vatican Radio in different chamber ensembles. In 2010 she participated to the V edition of the music event “The September Concert” together with famous musicians sucha as Maestro Zubin Mehta.
